What is the Child Welfare Committee?

The Child Welfare Committee is a quasi-judicial body established under the Juvenile Justice Act. It is entrusted with protecting the rights and welfare of vulnerable children.

Educational Qualification for Chairperson

A person shall be eligible for appointment as Chairperson if he/she:

  • Possesses a degree in Child Psychology, OR
  • Education, OR
  • Human Development, OR
  • Special Education for Differently-Abled Children

AND

Has actively worked in health, education, or child welfare activities relating to children for at least seven years.

Alternatively, candidates practicing professionally with a degree in:

  • Child Psychology
  • Psychiatry
  • Law

  • Special Education

Educational Qualification for Member

Applicants for Member posts must possess a degree in:

Composition of Child Welfare Committee

Tenure of Appointment

Selected candidates shall hold office for:

3 Years
