EducationJ&K UG, IPG Admissions 2026-27: In-Person Counselling Round Announced for Leftover Seats

The Government of Jammu and Kashmir, through the Directorate of Colleges, Higher Education Department, has notified an in-person counselling round for admission to leftover seats in Undergraduate (UG) and Integrated Postgraduate (IPG) programmes for the academic session 2026-27.

The notice concerns vacant seats available in Government Degree Colleges across Jammu and Kashmir. According to the notification, programmes listed in Annexure ‘A’ will be filled through in-person counselling, while programmes that are not included in the annexure will be offered through a walk-in admission process.

The notification was issued by the Directorate of Colleges under the Higher Education Department and is dated August 11, 2026. It carries notification number DC-HE/2026/2391 and has been issued in continuation of earlier admission notices.

Important Dates for J&K UG/IPG Counselling 2026-27

The Directorate of Colleges has specified a schedule for candidates participating in the in-person counselling round.

Fresh registration for candidates who have not registered earlier, along with submission of programme preferences on the Centralised Admission Portal, will take place from August 12 to August 14, 2026. The registration and preference submission process also covers candidates seeking admission under Open Merit, CDP, and Achievement Categories, including NCC, NSS, ECA and Sports.

Colleges will publish their in-person counselling schedules on August 14, 2026.

Candidates will then have to attend the in-person, on-campus counselling sessions according to the schedules notified by the respective colleges. These counselling sessions are scheduled from August 17 to August 19, 2026.

The Directorate has set August 20, 2026 as the deadline for completion of admission formalities.

Who Can Participate in the Counselling Round?

The notification allows all eligible candidates to participate in the in-person counselling round, including candidates who did not secure admission during an earlier round.

Candidates who were allotted a seat earlier but did not pay the admission fee are also eligible. Similarly, those who paid the admission fee but could not complete document verification can participate.

Students who are already admitted but want to change their programme or college may also take part. Candidates whose earlier applications were rejected because of incorrect information, marks, category claims or eligibility-related issues can participate if they now meet all applicable eligibility conditions.

However, candidates who voluntarily cancelled a confirmed admission will not be eligible to participate in this counselling round.

Admissions against vacant seats will be made under Open Merit, CDP and Achievement Categories, including NCC, NSS, ECA and Sports.

Fresh Registration and Programme Choices

Candidates who did not apply earlier must register on the Centralised Admission Portal and pay the prescribed application fee before participating.

Candidates who have already applied do not need to register again. However, all candidates taking part in the counselling round must submit fresh programme choices according to the schedule specified in the notice, even if they had submitted choices previously.

The notification also states that these choices will be considered independently for the counselling round, and the order of previously submitted choices will not affect admission during this round.

Candidates have been advised to check jkadmissions.in for the college-wise counselling schedule, venue and reporting time.

Candidates Must Report to Colleges Personally

The Directorate has made it clear that candidates participating in the in-person counselling process must personally report to the concerned college on the notified date and time.

Applicants are required to carry all necessary original documents for verification.

Admission will be determined among the candidates who report for counselling strictly on the basis of merit, applicable reservation rules, programme eligibility and the availability of vacant seats.

For admissions under CDP and Achievement Categories, the applicable norms of the affiliating university will be followed along with merit.

The notification further states that vacant non-supernumerary category seats, excluding CDP and Achievement Categories, will be converted to Open Merit for the in-person counselling round.

Submission of Choices Does Not Guarantee Admission

The Directorate has clarified that simply submitting an application or programme choices does not guarantee admission.

Admission will be confirmed only after physical reporting at the concerned college according to its published schedule. Selection will be based on merit among the candidates who report, verification of original documents and payment of the prescribed admission fee.

A candidate who secures admission during counselling may subsequently attend counselling for another programme or college. If the candidate accepts another seat, the earlier admission will be changed and the fee already paid will be adjusted according to the applicable rules.

Walk-In Admission for Other Programmes

A separate provision has been made for colleges and programmes that are not listed in Annexure ‘A’.

Eligible candidates for such programmes may directly approach the concerned college for walk-in admission up to August 20, 2026.

The complete admission process for these candidates, including payment of the online fee and physical verification of original documents, must also be completed by August 20.
