Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Tiruchirappalli, has announced the engagement of Trade Apprentices for the training year 2026-27 under the Apprentices Act, 1961. According to the official circular dated August 14, 2026, eligible candidates can apply online for a total of 380 tentative Trade Apprentice vacancies at BHEL Trichy.
The apprenticeship programme covers multiple trades, including Fitter, Welder, Electrician, Turner, Machinist, Instrument Mechanic, Motor Mechanic, Mechanic R & AC and COPA. The training duration for all the listed trades is 12 months.
Candidates should note that the vacancies mentioned in the notification are tentative. BHEL has stated that the number of vacancies may increase or decrease in any or all of the trades depending on its requirements.
BHEL Trichy Apprentice Vacancy 2026
The trade-wise distribution of the 380 tentative vacancies is as follows:
- Fitter: 125 vacancies
- Welder: 115 vacancies
- Electrician: 30 vacancies
- Turner: 20 vacancies
- Machinist: 20 vacancies
- Instrument Mechanic: 7 vacancies
- Motor Mechanic: 12 vacancies
- Mechanic R & AC: 6 vacancies
- COPA: 45 vacancies
All apprenticeship positions have a training period of one year from the date of joining, as specified under the Apprentices Act, 1961.
Stipend Details
The consolidated monthly stipend varies according to the trade. Candidates selected for Fitter, Electrician, Turner, Machinist, Instrument Mechanic, Motor Mechanic and Mechanic R & AC trades will receive a stipend of ₹11,040 per month.
For the Welder and COPA trades, the consolidated stipend is ₹10,560 per month.
The notification specifies these amounts as the stipend payable per month during the apprenticeship training.
BHEL Trichy Apprentice Eligibility Criteria
Candidates applying for the BHEL Trichy Trade Apprentice programme must meet the prescribed age and educational requirements.
For general candidates, the minimum age is 18 years, while the maximum age is 27 years as on August 1, 2026. The upper age limit is relaxed by five years for SC/ST candidates and by three years for OBC (NCL) candidates.
For physically challenged persons with a minimum of 40 per cent disability, a relaxation of 10 years in the upper age limit is admissible.
In terms of educational qualification, candidates must have passed High School and completed ITI as regular full-time candidates from an NCVT/SCVT-recognized institution. For all trades listed in the notification except Welder, an NCVT/SCVT certificate is required. For the Welder trade, only NCVT will be considered.
BHEL has specifically stated that candidates who completed ITI through Distance Learning, Part Time, Correspondence or Sandwich courses will not be considered for apprenticeship training. Candidates who have completed their full-time ITI course are eligible to apply.
Reservation for Apprentice Vacancies
Reservation has been provided for different categories among the training vacancies. According to the notification, 19 per cent, 1 per cent, 27 per cent, 10 per cent and 4 per cent of the vacancies are reserved for SC, ST, OBC (NCL), EWS and Physically Challenged candidates, respectively.
Reservation for dependents of regular employees who are serving, retired or deceased will be governed according to BHEL company rules.
BHEL Trichy Apprentice Selection Process
The selection process will be based on fulfilment of the conditions prescribed in the notification. A merit list will be prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the qualifying examination.
In case two or more candidates secure equal marks at the selection stage, the candidate who is older in age will be given preference.
Candidates selected for apprenticeship training must also satisfy the minimum physical fitness standards and parameters prescribed under the Apprentices Act and Clause 4 of the Apprenticeship Rule 1992, along with any amendments applicable to them.
Candidates who have already undergone apprenticeship training or are currently undergoing apprenticeship training in any other establishment under the Apprentices Act, 1961 are not eligible to apply.
Who Can Apply for BHEL Trichy Apprenticeship?
The notification states that candidates who have passed their qualifying examination from government-recognized academic institutions located in Tamil Nadu will be considered for selection.
If candidates from Tamil Nadu are not available for any notified branch of study, the vacancies will be filled with other candidates according to the procedure applicable to the respective branch or branches.
BHEL has also clarified that candidates will not receive TA/DA for certificate verification or for joining the apprenticeship training after selection.
Registration on Apprenticeship Portal
Before applying through the BHEL Trichy portal, eligible candidates must register on the Government of India’s RDSDE (NAPS) portal for Trade Apprentices. Only candidates having an RDSDE (NAPS) registration number will be considered for the training.
The registration instructions provided in the notification require candidates to visit the Apprenticeship portal, select the registration option and choose the candidate category. After entering the required personal details, candidates receive a 10-digit unique registration number.
Candidates must note this registration number because it is required for the BHEL online apprenticeship application. An activation link is also sent to the registered email ID. After activation, candidates can log in using their registered email ID or registration number and password.
Aadhaar verification is mandatory for creating the online apprenticeship contract. Candidates are advised to ensure that their Aadhaar details, including name, date of birth, gender and other particulars, match the details recorded in their SSLC certificate. E-KYC verification is also mandatory, and candidates need to provide their bank details and IFSC code correctly for the e-KYC process.
How to Apply for BHEL Trichy Apprentice Recruitment 2026
After completing registration on the Apprenticeship portal, candidates have to apply online through the BHEL Trichy portal.
The application process includes registering on the BHEL portal, reading the instructions, accepting the declaration and completing the registration form. A one-time password is sent to the registered email ID and mobile number, after which candidates can create a new password and proceed with the application.
Applicants are required to upload the specified documents, including a recent colour passport-size photograph, signature, Class 10 mark sheet, consolidated mark sheet of the prescribed educational qualification, applicable community or category certificate, Aadhaar card, a screenshot of the candidate profile home page from the Government Apprenticeship portal and the front page of the bank passbook uploaded on the Government portal. The bank account should be Aadhaar-seeded and DBT-enabled.
BHEL has cautioned that applications can be rejected if any required document is missing. Blurred, edited or incorrect documents will also lead to rejection.

Apprenticeship Training and Employment Terms
The apprenticeship training will continue for one year from the date of joining. BHEL has also clarified that completion of the apprenticeship does not create an obligation on the company to offer employment.
According to the notification, apprentices cannot claim a right to employment at BHEL on the basis of completing their apprenticeship training.
The company has also informed candidates that further details regarding the eligible candidate list, document verification and apprenticeship training will be made available through the BHEL Trichy website or communicated through email.
