The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has issued Advertisement No. 68/2026/Admn. inviting online applications from eligible candidates for recruitment to Deputy Registrar and Assistant Registrar posts on deputation basis. The recruitment notification provides details regarding the number of vacancies, pay levels, age limit, educational qualifications, required experience, application procedure and important deadlines.

A total of 24 posts are included in the notification. These comprise 4 vacancies for Deputy Registrar and 20 vacancies for Assistant Registrar. The maximum age limit prescribed for both posts is 56 years. The selected candidates will be posted at IGNOU Headquarters, Regional Centres and Regional Evaluation Centres across the country.

IGNOU Recruitment 2026 Vacancy Details

The Deputy Registrar post is placed at Pay Level-12, with a pay scale of Rs. 78,800–2,09,200. There are 4 vacant posts under this category.

The Assistant Registrar position carries Pay Level-10, with a pay scale of Rs. 56,100–1,77,500. The notification lists 20 vacancies for the post.

According to the recruitment advertisement, both positions are being filled on a deputation basis, and the eligibility requirements include specific educational qualifications as well as relevant experience in administrative and related areas.

Deputy Registrar Eligibility

For the Deputy Registrar post, candidates are required to possess a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks, or an equivalent grade of ‘B’ on the UGC seven-point scale, along with a good academic record.

The notification states that the requirement of 55% marks in the Master’s degree is relaxable by 5% for SC/ST candidates.

In addition to the educational qualification, applicants must meet the prescribed experience requirement. The notification specifies that eligible officers may include those working as Deputy Registrar in Pay Level-12 in areas such as Administration, Finance and Accounts, Audit, Conduct of Examination or Legal Affairs in Central Government, State Government, Government academic institutions, autonomous bodies or public sector undertakings.

Alternatively, officers with 10 years of experience as Assistant Registrar in Pay Level-10 and above in the specified fields may also meet the experience requirement.

Assistant Registrar Eligibility

For Assistant Registrar, candidates must also have a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks, or an equivalent ‘B’ grade under the UGC seven-point scale, along with a good academic record. The notification provides the same 5% relaxation in Master’s degree marks for SC/ST candidates.

The experience criteria include officers working as Assistant Registrar in Pay Level-10 in fields including Administration, Finance and Accounts, Audit, Examination or Legal Affairs under the Central Government, State Government, Government academic institutions, autonomous bodies or public sector undertakings.

Another route specified in the advertisement is for officers who have five years of experience as Section Officer in Pay Level-7 and above, under the 7th Central Pay Commission, in the relevant fields.

IGNOU Recruitment 2026 Important Dates

IGNOU has specified a fixed schedule for submission of applications.

The online application process started on September 12, 2026, while the last date for submission of the online application is October 12, 2026.

Candidates are also required to submit a print copy of the duly filled application along with self-attested testimonials. The last date for receipt of this print copy is October 27, 2026.

The maximum age limit for applying is 56 years as on the closing date of receipt of applications.

The notification further states that candidates must fulfil the required educational qualifications, experience and other eligibility conditions by the closing date of application. Merely meeting the eligibility requirements does not automatically guarantee an interview or selection. Only shortlisted candidates will be called for the interview and will have to produce documents for verification.

Deputation Period and Eligibility Conditions

The appointment on deputation will initially be for a period of three years. The deputation period may subsequently be extended on a year-to-year basis in accordance with Government of India norms, subject to a maximum period of five years.

The advertisement specifically states that there will be no provision for absorption against these posts.

It also states that departmental officers in the feeder category who are in the direct line of promotion will not be eligible for consideration for appointment on deputation.

The notification further specifies that candidates from Central Government, State Government, UT Administration, Central or State autonomous/statutory organisations, PSUs or educational institutions run by Central or State Governments are eligible to apply, subject to the prescribed conditions.

How to Apply for IGNOU Recruitment 2026

Eligible candidates are required to apply online through the official IGNOU website. Applicants need to register first, after which a username and password will be provided through SMS and email.

Candidates must then log in, complete the online application form and upload the required documents. The application process includes uploading a recent coloured photograph in JPG format with a maximum size of 100 KB and a specimen signature in JPG format with a maximum size of 50 KB.

After completing the form, candidates are required to preview and confirm their information before submitting it. A print or saved copy of the completed application should be retained for future reference.

The printed application, along with the required documents, has to be sent through the candidate’s Cadre Controlling Authority/Parent Organisation. Required documents include self-attested educational qualification certificates, experience certificates and relevant ACR/APAR and vigilance-related documents as specified in the notification.

No Application Fee

IGNOU has stated that no fee is required for applying for these posts.

Applications that are incomplete, deficient, submitted without proper channel or not accompanied by the required documents will not be considered. Applications received after the prescribed deadline will also not be entertained.
