Srinagar, July 17: Jammu and Kashmir is likely to witness a significant spell of wet weather in the coming days, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected at some places, particularly between July 20 and 22, 2026.

According to the latest weather forecast issued by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar (MET Srinagar), generally hot and humid conditions are expected initially, followed by spells of rain and thunderstorms across many parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The weather department has also warned about the possibility of flash floods, landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations during the peak wet spell. A significant rise in water levels of rivers and sub-basins is also possible.

J&K Weather Forecast From July 17 to 25

July 17–18

The weather is expected to remain generally hot and humid, with the possibility of brief spells of thundershowers at scattered places across Jammu and Kashmir.

July 19

A spell of rain and thundershowers is expected at many places. Heavy rain or brief intense showers may occur at isolated locations in the Jammu Division.

July 20–22

The weather is likely to remain generally cloudy, with a few spells of rain and thundershowers expected at most places across Jammu and Kashmir.

During this period, heavy rain, brief intense heavy showers or torrential rainfall may occur in a few districts of J&K. Some places in the Jammu Division may receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.

This period is expected to witness the most significant weather activity of the forecast period.

July 23

A spell of rain or thundershowers is expected at many places, with heavy showers at a few locations in the Jammu Division.

July 24–25

Brief spells of rain and thundershowers are possible at a few places across Jammu and Kashmir.

Weather Advisory Issued for J&K

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued an advisory in view of the expected spell of heavy rainfall.

There is a possibility of heavy rainfall and brief intense heavy showers on July 19 and during July 20–23 in a few districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places in the Jammu Division, particularly during the late afternoon, evening, late-night and morning hours.

Authorities and residents have also been advised to remain cautious as flash floods, landslides and mudslides may occur at a few vulnerable locations, particularly during July 20–22.

Water Levels May Rise in Rivers and Sub-Basins

The anticipated rainfall may lead to a significant rise in water levels in rivers and sub-basins across affected areas.

There are also chances of waterlogging and minor flooding in some low-lying areas, especially in locations receiving intense spells of rainfall.

People living near vulnerable water bodies, streams, nallahs and landslide-prone areas should remain alert and follow advisories issued by local authorities.

Farmers Advised to Suspend Farm Operations

In view of the expected adverse weather conditions, farmers have been advised to suspend agricultural and farm operations during periods of heavy rainfall.

The weather department has advised all concerned authorities and members of the public to plan their activities accordingly and remain updated with the latest weather forecasts and official advisories.

Residents and travellers should exercise caution, particularly in areas vulnerable to flash floods, landslides, mudslides and waterlogging, during the expected spell of intense rainfall.
