From 06-09-2026, 1600 hrs to 07-09-2026, 1600 hrs, very slow traffic movement was observed on NH-44 due to a single-lane, undulating and uneven road surface at Dawal, Udhampur, as well as on the single-lane stretch between Marog and Kishtwari Pather. In addition, 03 vehicles broke down between Digdol and Banihal.
In view of the inclement weather conditions forecast by the IMD, with a likely spell of rainfall over the next few days, the general public is advised to undertake journeys only after confirming the status of the road from TCU Srinagar/Ramban/Jammu. Commuters are also advised to check the road status through the J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page.
Traffic is being managed in a regulated manner at Dawal, Udhampur, on NH-44 due to a single-lane stretch of about 30–40 metres.
Passengers/LMV operators are advised to prefer travelling on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW during daytime. Night travel should be avoided due to the apprehension of shooting stones/landslides, as well as ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
In view of the widening work being undertaken by NHAI on the Digdol–Khooni Nalla axis of the Jammu-Srinagar NHW, the movement of Kashmir-bound oil and gas tankers shall remain restricted on this stretch during daytime, between 0700 hrs and 1900 hrs, as the movement of tankers loaded with inflammable material is restricted through tunnels.
Accordingly, the movement of up tankers shall be allowed beyond Chenani only after 1700 hrs up to 0500 hrs. Tanker operators are advised to plan their travel accordingly to avoid inconvenience and ensure their safety.
Goods carrier (HMV/LMV) operators carrying fresh perishables/livestock are advised to load their vehicles as per the advisories issued by Traffic Police Headquarters from time to time, as there is an apprehension of shooting stones/landslides and ongoing construction work between Ramban and Banihal, which may cause inconvenience to commuters.
HMV operators/owners are requested to desist from overloading and carry sufficient fuel during their journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW. Vehicle owners are also advised to double-check the fitness of their vehicles and carry sufficient fuel before undertaking the journey on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW.
Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary halts between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide/shooting-stone-prone areas.
TRAFFIC PLAN & ADVISORY FOR 08-09-2026
Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44)
Subject to fair weather and better road conditions, LMVs Passenger/HPVs/Private Cars/HMVs (Goods Carriers) shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e., from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline. Overtaking and wrong-lane driving may cause congestion. TCU Jammu/Srinagar shall coordinate with TCU Ramban regarding the road condition.
Army/SFs Convoy Movement
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, Security Forces vehicles shall be allowed to move from both sides on the Jammu-Srinagar NHW (NH-44), i.e., from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice versa.
They shall move after confirming the status of the NHW from TCU Ramban.
Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244
As per the orders issued by the SDM Chatroo, vide No. SDM/C/2026-27/578-86 dated 09-07-2026, and the SDM Kokernag, vide No. SDM/KNG/2025-26/487-88 dated 09-07-2026, and subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag road, i.e., from Kishtwar towards Srinagar and vice versa, after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agencies (NHIDCL).
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from PP Parana towards Anantnag between 0800 hrs and 1600 hrs, and from Daksum towards Kishtwar between 0900 hrs and 1600 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed after the cut-off timings. TCU Jammu/Ramban/TCU Srinagar will inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.
SSG Road
As per the order issued by DIVCOM Kashmir, vide No. DivCom/Dev/100/2026/4392-4410 dated 14-05-2026, and subject to fair weather and good road conditions, LMVs shall be allowed to ply from both sides on the Srinagar–Sonamarg–Gumari road, i.e., from Srinagar towards Kargil and vice versa.
These vehicles shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil and from Minamarg towards Srinagar, only after receiving a green signal from the road maintenance agencies, up to 1300 hrs.
However, HMVs shall be allowed to move from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1200 hrs and 1700 hrs, and no vehicle shall be allowed after 1700 hrs.
Motorists are advised to carry and use anti-skid chains to gain better grip on slippery roads. TCU Srinagar and PCR Kargil will inform all concerned about the cut-off timings.
SF convoys moving on the SSG Road shall plan their movement in such a manner that civilian traffic is not disturbed.
Mughal Road (NH-701A)
Subject to fair weather and good road conditions, and after obtaining clearance from the road maintenance agency (GREF), vehicular movement of LMVs followed by HMVs up to ten tyres only shall be allowed from both sides on Mughal Road, i.e., from Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa.
Vehicles shall be allowed to move from Chandimarh (Baffliaz) towards Shopian and from Herpora (Shopian) towards Poonch between 0700 hrs and 1800 hrs.
No vehicle shall be allowed to proceed after the prescribed cut-off timings.
The arrangement is as per the order issued by the District Magistrate, Shopian, vide No. DMS/ADM-PS/26-27/321-31 dated 03-07-2026. TCU Jammu and TCU Srinagar shall inform all concerned regarding the cut-off timings.
