J&K Weather Update (17 August 2025): IMD Issues Rainfall and Flood Advisory for Jammu & Kashmir
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a fresh weather forecast and advisory for Jammu & Kashmir covering the period from 17th to 25th August 2025. The department has predicted spells of rain, thundershowers, and chances of flash floods and landslides at vulnerable locations in the Union Territory.
Forecast for Jammu & Kashmir
- 17–19 August:
Light to moderate rain/thunder is expected at many places. Intense to heavy showers are likely over parts of the Jammu Division including Jammu, Reasi, Udhampur, Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, and Kathua. Moderate to intense showers are also likely in Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and some parts of the Kashmir Division with chances of brief intense rainfall and gusty winds. - 20–22 August:
Weather will remain generally hot and humid with the possibility of a brief thundershower at a few places. - 23–25 August:
A fresh spell of light to moderate rain/thundershower is expected at many places with the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated locations.

The department has also released an advisory for residents, travelers, and tourists:
- Possibility of intense/heavy rain and thunder at some places in both Jammu Division and Kashmir Division between 17–19 August.
- Risk of cloudbursts and flash floods in vulnerable areas.
- Threat of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones along hilly roads and highways during this period.
- People are advised to stay away from water bodies, streams, Nallas, river embankments, and loose structures.
- Travellers, transporters, tourists, and trekkers should plan their journeys accordingly and remain cautious.
The weather in Jammu & Kashmir over the coming days is expected to be unstable, with the highest risk of intense rainfall, flash floods, and landslides between 17–19 August. Authorities and the public are advised to stay alert
