The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has officially announced a revision of the Functional English syllabus for Class 11 students. The new syllabus will be implemented in upcoming academic sessions across different zones of Jammu and Kashmir.
The notification, issued by the Directorate of Academics JKBOSE, states that the revised course of study will apply to students appearing in future annual examinations.
Revised Functional English Syllabus for Class 11
According to the official notification dated 11 March 2026, JKBOSE has partially modified an earlier notification issued on 03 March 2026 regarding the syllabus for Functional English.
The board confirmed that the syllabus and course structure for Functional English have been updated to improve the learning framework and align with academic requirements.
The revised syllabus will be implemented in phases depending on the region and academic session.
Implementation Timeline
The updated Functional English syllabus will be effective as follows:
- Kashmir Division and Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division:
Applicable from Academic Session 2025–2026 - Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division:
Applicable from Academic Session 2026–2027
This phased implementation ensures a smooth transition for students and educational institutions across the Union Territory.
Impact on Class 11 Board Examinations
JKBOSE clarified that the question papers for Regular and Fresh Private candidates of Class 11 will be prepared based on the revised syllabus.
The examinations scheduled under the new curriculum will follow this timeline:
- October–November 2026:
Annual session exams for Kashmir Division and Winter Zone areas of Jammu Division - February–March 2027:
Annual session exams for Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division
Students preparing for these examinations are advised to study according to the revised Functional English syllabus, as the question papers will be based on the updated course.
