The University of Kashmir, functioning as the Nodal Agency for the Jammu & Kashmir State Eligibility Test (JKSET) and the Ladakh State Eligibility Test (LASET), has officially released the JKSET/LASET-2026 notification for determining eligibility for appointment as Assistant Professors in universities and colleges across the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. The examination is also valid for admission to Ph.D. programmes for successful candidates.
According to Notification No. KU/JKSET-LASET/01/2026, dated July 17, 2026, the examination is scheduled to be conducted on Sunday, October 25, 2026, across designated centres in Kashmir, Jammu, and Ladakh. The University will conduct the test in 41 subjects, covering a broad range of disciplines.
JKSET/LASET 2026 Important Dates
The official schedule released by the University of Kashmir outlines the complete timeline for the examination process:
- Notification issued: July 17, 2026 (Friday)
- Online application begins: July 24, 2026 (Friday)
- Last date to apply: August 20, 2026 (Thursday)
- Last date with late fee: August 25, 2026 (Tuesday)
- Admit card download: October 8, 2026 (Thursday)
- Examination date: October 25, 2026 (Sunday)

Application Fee Details
Candidates are required to pay the examination fee only through the online payment gateway integrated with the application portal.
The fee structure is as follows:
- General/Unreserved: ₹1,200 (₹1,800 with late fee)
- RBA/ALC-IB/OBC/EWS: ₹900 (₹1,500 with late fee)
- SC/ST (I & II), Transgender and PwD (40% disability): ₹700 (₹1,300 with late fee)
The University has clarified that payments made through offline methods such as demand drafts, money orders, cheques, cash deposits, or postal orders will not be accepted. It has also stated that the examination fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted against any future examination under any circumstances.
Examination Centres
JKSET/LASET 2026 will be conducted through three main examination centres:
- Kashmir Centre: Srinagar, Anantnag and Baramulla
- Jammu Centre: Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, Udhampur and Bhadarwah
- Ladakh Centre: Leh and Kargil
Candidates will be allotted centres according to the division for which they are applying.
Subjects Offered
The examination will be conducted in 41 subjects, including General Paper (Paper-I), Chemical Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Computer Science & Applications, Commerce, Economics, English, Education, Geography, History, Political Science, Sociology, Law, Psychology, Mass Communication & Journalism, Management, Tourism Administration and Management, Anthropology, Women’s Studies, Kashmiri, Urdu, Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic, Persian, Dogri, Punjabi, Music and several other disciplines notified by the University.
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates who have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off), or an equivalent grade in a Master’s Degree from a UGC-recognised university or institution, are eligible to apply.
Applicants belonging to OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), SC, ST, PwD and Third Gender categories are eligible with 50% marks in the qualifying Master’s Degree.
Candidates pursuing their postgraduate degree or awaiting results may also submit applications by uploading a valid bonafide certificate issued by the concerned Head of Department, College or Institution. Such candidates will be considered provisionally and must obtain the required qualifying marks within two years from the declaration of the JKSET/LASET result.
Candidates holding a Ph.D. degree whose Master’s examination was completed on or before September 19, 1991, are entitled to a 5% relaxation, reducing the qualifying marks requirement from 55% to 50%.
Reservation and Document Requirements
The University has stated that reservation benefits will be governed by the applicable reservation rules of the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Candidates claiming reservation must upload valid category certificates along with the required domicile certificate before the closing date of applications. Certificates that are invalid, expired or still under process will not be accepted, and such applicants will be treated under the Open/Unreserved category if otherwise eligible.
Applicants are not required to send any hard copies of documents during the application process. Physical document verification will be conducted only for candidates who qualify the examination.
Online Application Process
Applications for JKSET/LASET 2026 will be accepted only in online mode through the official University portals.
Candidates are required to:
- Register using their mobile number, email address and password.
- Complete the online application form carefully.
- Upload the required documents, including photograph, signature, domicile certificate and category certificate where applicable.
- Upload a bonafide certificate if they are appearing in the qualifying postgraduate examination.
- Pay the examination fee online.
- Download and preserve the application form, fee receipt and transaction details for future reference.
The University has advised candidates to submit their applications well before the closing date to avoid last-minute technical issues or network congestion.
Important Instructions for Candidates
The notification advises candidates to carefully read the Information Bulletin and ensure they satisfy all eligibility conditions before submitting their applications.
Applicants should regularly visit the official University websites for updates regarding admit cards, answer keys, examination notices and results.
The University has also clarified that requests for changes in examination centres after submission of the application form will not be entertained. Additionally, if any candidate is found to have furnished false or misleading information, the candidature may be cancelled in accordance with the provisions mentioned in the notification.
