The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has announced several changes to the NEET UG 2026 counselling process aimed at simplifying medical admissions, reducing physical paperwork, and making the system more transparent for aspirants.
The updates were communicated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to state counselling authorities ahead of the NEET UG 2026 counselling process, as per media reports.
NO PHYSICAL REPORTING NEEDED FOR CANDIDATES SEEKING UPGRADES
Under the revised counselling process, candidates who secure a seat in any round but wish to participate in subsequent rounds for an upgrade will not be required to physically report to the allotted medical college. Earlier, students had to complete physical reporting formalities at the allotted institution, which often created challenges for those seeking upgrades.
As per the new guidelines, candidates opting for an upgrade in later rounds will retain their allotted seat while participating in the next counselling round. The move is expected to provide relief to students and parents who face difficulties travelling to allotted colleges due to financial, time, or logistical constraints, the reports state.
ONLINE RESIGNATION FACILITY
In another student-friendly reform, MCC has launched an online resignation facility for candidates who wish to withdraw from their allotted seats, wherever resignation is permitted under the counselling guidelines.
The report also states that candidates can now submit resignation requests through the MCC counselling portal within the specified deadline, eliminating the need to visit the allotted medical college physically to complete the resignation process. The facility will be available according to the rules and timelines applicable to each counselling phase.
NRI QUOTA DOCUMENT SUBMISSION MOVED ONLINE
Candidates applying for NRI quota seats in deemed universities will now be able to submit their required documents directly through the MCC counselling portal. Earlier, the NRI quota document submission process involved additional coordination and was more time-consuming for applicants. The new online facility aims to simplify verification and make the process more accessible and transparent.
STATES ASKED TO ENSURE EASY ACCESS TO ADMISSION DETAILS
The report further states that the MCC has also directed state and Union Territory medical authorities to ensure that important admission-related information, including seat availability, institutional fees, and other relevant details, is easily accessible to candidates.
The move is aimed at helping aspirants make informed decisions during the counselling process.
With the NEET UG 2026 re-exam results announced earlier this month, the MCC is expected to release the counselling schedule soon. The revised measures are expected to make the upcoming counselling process more flexible and convenient for medical aspirants across the country.
