Traffic Advisory for Jammu & Kashmir: June 24, 2025
The Traffic Police Headquarters of Jammu & Kashmir has issued a detailed advisory for June 24, 2025, regarding movement on various highways across the Union Territory.
There was slow traffic observed on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) between June 22 and 23 due to single-lane restrictions at Dalwas, Peeda, Mehad, and stretches between Marog and Kishtwari Pather, owing to ongoing four-lane construction. Traffic was regulated at key points like Mehad, Cafeteria, and Ramban, where a 150-200 meter stretch remains single-lane. Commuters are advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking to prevent congestion.
Passengers and LMV operators are encouraged to travel during daylight hours due to the risk of shooting stones, especially between Ramban and Banihal. Goods carriers transporting perishables or livestock are urged to follow advisories issued regularly, keeping in mind road conditions. HMV operators are also reminded to avoid overloading, ensure vehicle fitness, and carry enough fuel.
Heavy vehicles with only six or ten tyres will be allowed via the Dhar Road route. Commuters should avoid unnecessary stoppages in vulnerable areas like Ramban and Banihal.
For June 24, subject to fair weather and road conditions, LMVs and passenger vehicles will be allowed from both directions on NH-44. HMVs will be allowed from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar, but only until 4 PM. No HMV will be permitted after this cut-off. Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Jammu, Srinagar, and Ramban will coordinate updates.
On the Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag (NH-244), LMVs and HPSVs will be allowed in both directions, with movement from PP Parana towards Anantnag between 8 AM to 4 PM, and from PP Daksum towards Kishtwar between 9 AM to 3 PM. Only designated HPSVs are permitted, as per orders from SDM Chhatroo and SDM Kokernag.
The Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) Road will remain open in a regulated manner. LMVs followed by HMVs will move from Minamarg to Srinagar between 8 AM to 11:30 AM, and from Sonamarg to Kargil between 1 PM to 4:30 PM. No vehicle will be allowed after the cut-off time.
Mughal Road is open for both LMVs and passenger vehicles from Jammu to Srinagar via Poonch. Local livestock-carrying HMVs with up to six tyres will be allowed from Poonch to Shopian between 6 AM to 7 PM, as per District Magistrate Poonch’s directive.
Travelers are strongly advised to confirm the latest road status before planning their journey. Important contact numbers for Traffic Control Units are:
