J&K Weather Update: Rain, Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds Expected From June 30; Advisory Issued
Srinagar, June 24: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting mostly dry weather over the next few days, followed by fresh spells of rain and thunderstorms across many parts of the Union Territory from June 30 onwards.
According to the forecast, weather conditions from June 24 to June 29 are expected to remain generally dry during the forenoon and afternoon hours. However, isolated to scattered areas may witness brief spells of light rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds during the late afternoon and evening hours.
The weather department has further stated that a fresh western disturbance is likely to influence the region from June 30 to July 3, bringing light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, gusty winds, and brief intense heavy showers at many places across Jammu and Kashmir.
Possibility of Heavy Showers and Hailstorms
The Met Centre has warned that some areas may experience brief intense heavy showers, which could trigger localized flash floods, mudslides, and waterlogging, especially in vulnerable regions.
There is also a possibility of hailstorms at isolated locations during the late afternoon hours, which may affect orchards and standing crops.
Advisory for Residents and Farmers
The Meteorological Department has issued the following advisory:
- Orchard spraying should preferably be carried out during the early morning or morning hours.
- People are advised to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires, and old trees during thunderstorms and strong winds.
- Boating activities and Shikara rides should be suspended during thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty wind conditions.
- Avoid visiting or staying near nallas, streams, and landslide-prone areas during periods of heavy rainfall.
- Residents living in vulnerable areas should remain alert for the possibility of flash floods and mudslides.
