NEET UG 2026 Re-Exam: Two Errors Reportedly Found in Physics Paper; NTA Likely to Drop One Question

EducationNEET UG 2026 Re-Exam: Two Errors Reportedly Found in Physics Paper; NTA Likely to Drop One Question

Fresh issues have surfaced in the NEET UG examination after the June 21 re-exam, with the Physics paper reportedly containing two errors, according to The New Indian Express. One question allegedly has no correct answer among the given options, while another has two valid answers.

As per The New Indian Express, the error involving the question with no correct option is expected to result in the National Testing Agency (NTA) dropping the question. Under the agency’s evaluation policy, all candidates who appeared for the examination would receive four marks for the dropped question, irrespective of whether they attempted it.

The report added that another Physics question contains two correct options, both of which are expected to be accepted during evaluation.

The entrance examination comprised 180 multiple-choice questions carrying a total of 720 marks, with 45 questions each from Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology. Every correct answer carries four marks.

Explaining the discrepancies, Harpreet Singh, director at Visionary Masters in Delhi, told The New Indian Express, “The question on Vernier Callipers has four answer options. All four are wrong. The correct answer is 1.6 cm and it does not figure among the options for question 40.”

He also pointed to another error in the Physics section, saying, “While ideally there should be only one answer for a question, both the answers 3 and 4 are correct for this question numbered 22.”

Meanwhile, the NTA’s official portal states: “If none of the options is correct, a question is wrong or dropped, all candidates who appeared will be given four marks irrespective of whether the question has been attempted or not attempted by the candidate.”

According to The New Indian Express, neither the NTA nor the Union Education Ministry responded to requests for comment on the issue.
